The SwirlX3D Translator is an enhanced version of the Viewer that permits Collada 3DS, PLY, OBJ, and STL files to be imported into VRML or X3D. Other 3D formats will be added later.

Model 3D content programs support export to one of the formats supported by SwTranslator. This allows high quality content to incorporated into the VRML or X3D scene. The OBJ, PLY and STL are also common formats for 3D scanner output and other applications

In addition, SwPublish can be used to create SW3D files, which is the file format used by the SwirlX3D plug-in for displaying web content. The SW3D format is a compressed and encrypted archive that contains the X3D file plus supporting subscenes and multimedia files. The encryption in the format is used to protect the content of the scene.

The SwTranslator expands the migration path to make it easier to bring various 3D content into VRML and X3D scenes. Within these formats animation and interactivity can be added to make them become alive.
